The Shimmering

Vedic meditation can be described as a boundary dissolving experience. One that can be simply expressed and understood by analogy. Imagine one were gazing into a well. Initially we notice the immediacy of our surface complexion reflecting back at us. The familiar expression contours and features we have worn and habituated. Yet if we learn to linger long enough , allow our gaze to settle to soften. We begin to go beyond surface appearances. Start to notice the depths of the water revealing itself to us. Drawing us deeper in. Indistinct at first, a remote and perhaps uninviting darkness. That very quickly yields to familiarity. Something recognisable beckons to us. We are suddenly aware of our face again. But framed in a new way. A shimmering luminosity, held and supported by a changeless immensity. A depth that’s never alien, never a stranger It’s always been a fundamental part of us. And as the surface stirs and inevitably changes its texture, reshaping what we see, how we know , we feel our depth and it’s capacity to hold us close. Hold us steady, In silence, in stillness, my true and unchanging face.
